The Circumcised Heart

The gift of the Spirit is vital to the redemption of humanity and God’s covenant with His people, the Church of Jesus Christ.

The New Testament links the gift of the Holy Spirit to the “blessings of Abraham,” the promise that God will bless the nations through the Patriarch. The outpouring of the Spirit on the Church is one of God’s promises to Israel, and the Scriptures confirm this.

El don del Espíritu es vital para la redención de la humanidad y el pacto de Dios con Su pueblo, la Iglesia de Jesucristo.

El Nuevo Testamento vincula el don del Espíritu Santo con “las bendiciones de Abraham”, la promesa de que Dios bendecirá a las naciones a través del Patriarca. El derramamiento del Espíritu sobre la Iglesia es una de las promesas de Dios a Israel, y las Escrituras lo confirman.

Heirs of the Covenant

Christians become heirs of Abraham through Christ, and the gift of the Spirit is our assurance of participating in the full salvation to come.

The possession of Canaan by Israel was an early stage in God’s redemptive plan, which always envisioned something larger than Israel and the small territory of Palestine. With the arrival of Jesus, “the seed of Abraham,” and the outpouring of the Spirit, the fulfillment of the covenant promises began.

Herederos del Pacto

Los cristianos se convierten en herederos de Abraham a través de Cristo, y el don del Espíritu es nuestra garantía de participar en la salvación plena venidera.

La posesión de Canaán por parte de Israel fue una etapa temprana en el plan redentor de Dios, que siempre imaginó algo más grande que Israel y el pequeño territorio de Palestina. The Time of the Spirit

The gift of the Spirit is foundational to the New Covenant. It is the beginning of the New Creation and the gathering of the nations.

The history of Israel includes descriptions of the sins that caused the expulsion of the nation from the Land of Canaan. God foresaw the failures of Israel, and therefore, He determined to make a new covenant, one that is energized and characterized by the Holy Spirit.

The Anointed Son

Jesus is the anointed Son of God whose life and ministry are filled with the empowering presence of the Holy Spirit.

The activity of the Spirit dominates the life, words, and deeds of Christ. He is “Jesus, the one called Christ,” the long-awaited Messiah of Israel. The angel informed Joseph that Mary carried a child “conceived of the Holy Spirit,” indicating that something more than just a miraculous birth was about to unfold.

Jesus Imparts Life

The Son of God gives the Spirit to men and women, without which there is no enduring life. His words are spirit, and they are life.

“The Spirit gives life. The flesh profits nothing. The declarations I have spoken to you, they are spirit, and they are life.” Christ’s statement echoes the biblical principle that life and the Spirit of God are inextricably linked – (John 6:63).

Jesús Imparte Vida

El Hijo de Dios da el Espíritu a los hombres y mujeres, sin el cual no hay vida duradera. Sus palabras son espíritu, y son vida.

“El Espíritu da vida. La carne no aprovecha nada. Las declaraciones que les he hablado, son espíritu y son vida.” La declaración de Cristo se hace eco del principio bíblico de que la vida y el Espíritu de Dios están inextricablemente unidos – (Juan 6:63).

El Mesías Inesperado

Fue solo cuando murió que el centurión romano a cargo de la ejecución reconoció que Jesús era el Hijo de Dios.

Todos en el Evangelio de Marcos son incapaces de reconocer quién es Jesús, excepto Juan el Bautista, Pedro (momentáneamente) y el centurión romano en su ejecución, y el momento de perspicacia de Pedro resultó fugaz. Incluso el Bautista comenzó a cuestionar la identidad de Cristo cuando fue encarcelado por Herodes Antipas.

The Knowledge of God

Jesus reveals the meaning of Scripture, the understanding of the future, and the nature and mysteries of God.

Jesus unveils the Divine mysteries, and only he is qualified to reveal the nature and glory of the unseen God. All the promises of God find their fulfillment in him.  Christ unlocks the scriptures, and there is no true knowledge of God apart from him.

El Conocimiento de Dios

Jesús revela el significado de las Escrituras, la comprensión del futuro y la naturaleza y los misterios de Dios.

Jesús revela los misterios divinos, y solo él está calificado para revelar la naturaleza y la gloria del Dios invisible. Todas las promesas de Dios encuentran su cumplimiento en él.  Cristo abre las Escrituras, y no hay verdadero conocimiento de Dios aparte de él.

“¡Apartaos de mí!”

Al final de su sermón, Jesús atribuyó autoridad absoluta a sus palabras. Si los ignoramos, corremos el riesgo de ser rechazados por él - Mateo 7:21-28.

“¡Nunca te conocí ! ¡Apartaos de mí!” Estas son las palabras más aterradoras que podríamos escuchar de Jesús. Su advertencia demuestra que las enseñanzas de Cristo no son opcionales. Los mandamientos del 'Sermón del Monte' nos enseñan cómo debemos vivir como ciudadanos fieles del Reino de Dios.

Christ's Kingdom

Jesus proclaimed a new political reality, the Kingdom of God, which bears little resemblance to the political systems and regimes of this age.

Jesus appeared in Galilee proclaiming the Kingdom of God – “Repent, for the kingdom is at hand.” The Kingdom promised by God was arriving in Christ’s life and ministry. He is the Messiah and King of Israel who summons all men to turn from their wicked ways and submit to his lordship while the opportunity remains.

El Reino de Cristo

Jesús proclamó una nueva realidad política, el Reino de Dios, que se parece poco a los sistemas y regímenes políticos de este mundo.

Jesús apareció en Galilea proclamando el Reino de Dios – “Arrepiéntanse, porque el reino está cerca.” El Reino prometido por Dios estaba llegando a la vida y ministerio de Cristo. Él es el Mesías y Rey de Israel que convoca a todos los hombres a volverse de sus malos caminos y someterse a su señorío mientras exista la oportunidad.

Misericordia, no Sacrificio

El perdón conecta el llamado del publicano con la curación del paralítico – la autoridad de Cristo para perdonar pecados - Marcos 2: 13-17.

Cuando Jesús pronunció perdonados los pecados del paralítico, ofendió a los Escribas y fariseos y los alienó aún más al mostrar misericordia “a los pecadores”, individuos considerados inaceptables por los judíos religiosamente observantes. Al ver al Nazareno comiendo con “publicanos”, los Escribas y fariseos insinuaron que Jesús también era un pecador notorio (Marcos 2: 1-17).

La Palabra de la Cruz

El poder y la sabiduría de Dios se revelan en la proclamación del Mesías que fue crucificado para salvar al Mundo.

Jesús realizó milagros y enseñó con gran autoridad, y durante un tiempo atrajo a grandes multitudes. Pero sus contemporáneos no reconocieron quién era él a pesar de sus demostraciones de poder sobrenatural. Solo el centurión romano en el Gólgota percibió que el Nazareno era el Hijo de Dios cuando Jesús expiró.

The Word of the Cross

The power and wisdom of God are revealed in the proclamation of the Messiah who was crucified to save the World.

Jesus performed miracles and taught with great authority, and for a time, he attracted large crowds. But his contemporaries failed to recognize who he was despite his displays of supernatural power. Only the Roman centurion at Golgotha perceived that the Nazarene was God’s Son when Jesus breathed his last.

¿Sirviente o César?

Jesús rechazó la oferta de Satanás de poder político ilimitado y, en cambio, eligió el camino del Siervo Sufriente que conduce al Calvario - Mateo 4: 8-11.

Satanás tentó a Jesús ofreciéndole poder político sobre “todos los reinos del mundo.” El Mesías de Israel rechazó esta oferta seductora y políticamente pragmática. En cambio, se sometió al camino del 'Siervo Sufriente de Yahvé', que terminó con su inevitable muerte en la Cruz romana.

The Bedrock of the Apostolic Faith

Christ’s Death and Resurrection are foundational and indispensable to the teachings of Jesus and the Apostles.

The Apostle Paul discusses the future resurrection of believers in his second letter to Timothy in response to denials of this “sound teaching.” Faith in the future resurrection is central to the doctrine of salvation proclaimed by Jesus and his Apostles. This teaching is utterly reliable since it is based on the historical Death and Resurrection of Jesus, and the eyewitness testimony of the Apostles – (Acts 1:21-22, 2 Timothy 1:13).
